For Asgard - Finished

Many layers. Many textures. Many brushes.

It's taken some time for me to accept the validity of Photoshop for anything other than photo editing.

I'm coming round but I think I still prefer Illustrator.

Basically I watched Thor and then decided to do a drawing. 

One informed the other. Went pretty heavy on the hatching.

Next step colour, and sorting out the dodgy lettering.

Professional Project: Illustration Number Three - Hermes

 

Hermes

If you're wandering what happened to Number Two, it's still being made. This one came from Terry Pratchett's 'Making Money' through some random words and ended up at Hermes. I had a look at those old Greek jars with the black imagery on them so that's where I took the colours and sort of the style from, lots of black blocking.

January 28th 2011: Diamonds And Guns - Pin Up

 

Finally got around to doing something. Painting is good. Pin up with some tattoos, piercings and shaved head and stuff. Pretty happy with this although the left hand is a bit too small but it's not so easy to see. Loving the filligree pattern and little icons of the background. The guns pretty sweet as well. This is the first time I've done anything largeish in ages. It's been enjoyable. More to come I think. 

 

Here's a close up of the facial/gun area, also with the best tattoo bit and showing the background more. The crop looks pretty good to be honest. Better composition.

September 7th 2010: The Flight Of Icarus

I have always loved all the Greek mythology. I used to have a tape set, 4 casettes with loads on them read by Tony Robinson. I don't know why I've never thought of drawing them before. Probably because I would of absolutely ruined anything I tried to draw from them but oh well. I'm pretty pleased with this. For me it's pretty in proportion for something I used no reference for at all. Straight outta the ol' brain this one. I just looked at some other pictures of Icarus on google to see how mine measures up. They are ALL falling. Now I know this is pretty much the crucial moment in the tale, but without the flight there would of been no fall. And to me thats the point in the first place. It was probably worth it considering he'd been imprisoned, to have that one moment of pure, unbridled, unadulterated freedom. Way to go out on a high.

August 18th 2010: Fairy Time

Jimmy's sister asked me to draw a fairy.
So I did. I messed the skin colour up a bit which annoyed me a fair bit but overall I guess it's okay. I like the wings.

July 29th 2010: Dead Pigeon

Today there was a dead pigeon near my house.

It looked alright on the way out.

On the way back it had been feasted on.

All that remained was wings, spine and feet.
