Section 2 of 3 of 'The Butcher' got drawn up today, that's the typography. I also sketched the 3rd section to be filled tomorrow and then I can begin my Ai work.
Soundtrack to this drawing - Eminem's 'Recovery'.

EMP Vinyl Toy - Small Town Folk - Axe Killer (not quite finished)
Killer Mask Guy from Small Town Folk. If you don't know the movie you should check it out, it was shot in my hometown.
This is made using a 4inch glow in the dark DIY Munny toy which obviously I've customised by cutting the ears & tail off, painting & sewing the mask. There's also an axe to go with this but it's not painted yet, I may add some detail underneath the mask and I'm also going to make a second mask as this one is removable. I tried some different techniques to paint this from last time. I used fewer colours for a start which proved to make it a lot easier as you don't have to constantly be waiting for it to dry. I also watched some tutorials on painting vinyl toys and was convinced to use a wash. I painted the dungarees in a cerulean blue, then washed over that a couple of times with an ultramarine to pick out the detail, and then once more with a brown to give a muddy appearance. Then I did a little dry brushing to a couple of areas in a white to make the clothing look worn. After inking in the outlines I added a really light splatter to the front & the hands. The key to painting blood splatter is to be sparing, otherwise it looks really unrealistic.
Face zipped up.
Face unzipped.
Left hand side.
Back with buttons on mask.
Right hand side.
The point of getting the glow in the dark vinyl was so that it would shine out of the eyeholes & mouth. Unfortunately taking photos of this has proved to be fairly difficult. I will sort this out.

For Asgard - Finished
Many layers. Many textures. Many brushes.
It's taken some time for me to accept the validity of Photoshop for anything other than photo editing.
I'm coming round but I think I still prefer Illustrator.

More Stickers
After all the fun I had making and sticking my stickers the other week I thought I'd knock up a few more in a different design. I went with the stumble woman as you can see. Works well. I think I'm going to make up a load of different designs to stick about the place. See how many I can fit onto a page. Like sticker Tetris. Only they won't dissapear.

Stick That Zombie Down
So today I remembered that I had a large pack of sticker paper left over from when I made stickers for War On Want. So I thought "Hmm... What can I do with these?" and as always when I'm unsure I goto Zombies. So here's some zombie stickers with my web adress at the bottom. Nice. I'm thinking about printing up some other bits of my work on sticker paper. Stickers are fun.

December 31st 2010: Always Looking Doomed / The End Is Nigh
The End Is Nigh. I've done it before and I'll more than likely do it again, but I decided to finish off the year with a zombie self portrait. Above = photo, below = zombie.
Good facial expression captured, good eyes, good blood splatter. The end of the year. Wow. 365 drawings in as many days. Alongside all of my uni work and other stuff. It's been absolutely brutal on some days when I just could not find the inspiration/effort/ideas to be going on with. Whilst on other days it's been just awesome. I think 2011 is going to be interesting, I'm going to go for some larger pieces worked across a couple of weeks / a month rather than loads of little quick ones. I feel my skills have come on in leaps and bounds, certainly my knowledge and understanding of different techniques and styles has. I'm getting all nostalgic now. It was definitely a worthwhile challenge to set for myself. Bring on 2011.

December 28th 2010: Always Looking Bemused
Went for the dumb, stumbling zombie type today as opposed to yesterdays angry, intelligent one. This however means that the emotion in the face is a bit of a let down and as such I don't think it makes such a good image. The yellow eyes also make it a little bit cartoony.

December 27th 2010: Always Looking Dead
I think this is one of the best things I've done all year, and since it's the end of the year that logically means that I've been getting better throughout... right? Took the style i've been using recently and applied it to zombietime. Then applied colour. I love it. Way more realistic than most of my previous zombie draws but it's still stylised and the colour is all block but using the black line shading it changes it up a bit. Also no marker edges which I think has actually worked. Good times. I might get this framed.

Work Experience 11/05/2010
So today was working on briefs for WE ARE LEVEL, a BMX clothing company. The brief was much more open than last weeks as it was simply to design a t-shirt staying within their style, using their logo etc.
So I spent all day doing this:
Original sketch that was scanned and loaded to illustrator.
Outcome.
