September 30th 2010: Love Is Blind

I love this.
Definitely one of my favourite things I've done this year.
Simple lines, a bit of shading & a splash of colour.
Good recipe. Plus I think I drew it well. Boast.

September 28th 2010: Under Lock & Key

Once upon a time I spent a good 5 or 6 months drawing hands & got really good at it. Then I forgot how to do it, then I decided to try again. I really like this actually. Thick lines are fun.

September 27th 2010: Snake Fight

This looked alright right up until the point I went to colour the cobra in black. Which was the last thing I did. I think I wrecked it. Although I think I did the bellies well.

September 26th 2010: Windy Days & Redheaded Maidens

Erm... More non-whiteness. Not so much detail but I sort of like it... it could of been better if I'd tried to create more narrative rather than being lazy.

September 25th 2010: Ice Cream For The Dead

Yesss! I like this. Ha. It's stupid, it's colourful & it contains zombies. I also like the fact that I went for the full background colour, even if it is just an odd pattern, I like the none whiteness. Makes the white that is there pop more.

September 24th 2010: Four Eyes

Erm... Four eyes?
I'm not sure. I had no ideas today. Lazy.

September 23rd 2010: Misery Hat

Okay, so I bought a blank hat so that I could paint a design on the bottom of the peak (cause I'm cool like that) & I thought I'd knock out a few rough designs rather than go straight for it. Get back into the uni way of things before everything kicks back in so...
I went for number 3. With a few minor adjustments for space & clarity.

End product. Blurry photo but all together the end result is better than I'd hoped considering painting with acrylic onto cotton isn't easy.

September 22nd 2010: Hyena Boy

I love this. It was so fun to draw & I think it came out really well, I've tried to draw Hyenas before & it's always gone wrong. Good work me. I rate this up there with the likes of Wolf Boy Mk I. I also feel that my work in this style is getting better so... yeah.

September 21st 2010: The League Of Depressed Gentlemen

Why so sad fellas? Weird dodgy face drawings & silly haircuts are awesome.
This is the first guy I drew. He's the best. Nice jumper.

September 20th 2010: Cannibal Pig

Pigs are hairy all over. This one likes pork leg. Preferably with stuffing.

September 18th 2010: Rock 'N' Roll

I hate music magazines. They are all massively generic and boring and awful.

September 17th 2010: I Am Sparticus

.
This guy is definitely not sparticus.
I used to draw everything in this weird style. Don't know why I stopped. Probably so that I could get better at other styles. It's fun though.

September 16th 2010: Apex

...This looks NOTHING like Tom. Oh well. It's pretty funny. Ha.

September 15th 2010: Windy Days & Dandelion Clocks

Sketched at work with a ballpoint, threw some ink on it when I got home. Done. Pretty dodge.

September 11th 2010: The School Run

Colour Pencils. How I love them.
As you may be able to tell the background was a little rushed.
So I've decided to put up a close up of the main area of tech.

September 10th 2010: Create a Language

Retna inspired. It's a bit dodgy but yeah, was fun to create random symbols that replace letters... If you can read this I'll give you a tenner. If anyone wants to try be aware that some letters have two symbols & theres a couple of spelling mistakes. Ha.

September 9th 2010: The Real Harpie

Screeeech.
Get down with your scratchy ink self.

I give you Zeus, King of the Gods, Hurler of lightning bolts, Wearer of beards.

& here for your enjoyment is some more 'bored at work' drawings.

September 7th 2010: The Flight Of Icarus

I have always loved all the Greek mythology. I used to have a tape set, 4 casettes with loads on them read by Tony Robinson. I don't know why I've never thought of drawing them before. Probably because I would of absolutely ruined anything I tried to draw from them but oh well. I'm pretty pleased with this. For me it's pretty in proportion for something I used no reference for at all. Straight outta the ol' brain this one. I just looked at some other pictures of Icarus on google to see how mine measures up. They are ALL falling. Now I know this is pretty much the crucial moment in the tale, but without the flight there would of been no fall. And to me thats the point in the first place. It was probably worth it considering he'd been imprisoned, to have that one moment of pure, unbridled, unadulterated freedom. Way to go out on a high.

September 6th 2010: Floating Face Redhead

I've been working on this for a while, due to the fact that it's oil paint on canvas and so takes forver to dry. Plus I've never actually used oil paints before so it's been interesting.
Today it reached the point where I'm happy with the contrast & the rendering & colours & balance. It looks a bit dodgy in the photo but the canvas looks good. Theres my DIY sketchbook again on the left.

Here's the face. Many layers have been applied.

Make Your Own Sketchbooks

This lovely item is made entirely from old Primark bags (apart from the thread & glue of course). It has 8 signatures of 16 pages, that makes 128 (including front and back cover). Each one is sewn together & then sewn (and glued because I got a bit lazy with the sewing) to the others. I used the handles off the bags to wrap around the spine to create a stronger bind & a semi-hardback effect. This took ages, probably about 4/5 hours total but I'm pretty happy with it. Brown paper is good.

September 5th 2010: Freddie Mercury

Moustache.

September 4th 2010: The Return Of Antlers

Haven't draw anything with antlers for a while so I thought I'd get back to that. Thick outline plus outer highlight = POP.

Friday, 3 September 2010

September 3rd 2010: Harpie Girl

Beware the breasts. They will tempt you. Ha.
I like this highlight situation around the main image.
I'm also pretty pleased with the font for something I made up.

September 2nd 2010: Lennox Lewis

This looks better on paper, the scanners stolen some of my contrast in the skin. Lennox Lewis beating on someone. Must use coloured pencils more, should probably get some good ones though.

September 1st 2010: Werewolf Jones

The secret about Jones is revealed on his 21st.
He is no man. Beware.
